VAMC Steam Trap Replacement

This project involved the removal and disposal of all debris from a confined space. The demolition of ~300 linear feet of 0.5- to 2-inch sections of steam pipe and associated fittings back to the main that are identified as open and not dead legs. For the steam pipe repair, AmeriTech then furnished appropriate tools, equipment, and labor to repair and replace steam distribution piping, fittings, supports/hangers, unions, steam trap stations, and other associated parts and piping in kind within a confined space. This included furnishing and installing the new ~300 linear feet of steam pipe and ~30 fittings, ~90 bends, unions, tees, etc. as required. Four steam trap stations were repaired and rebuilt, 10 gate valves ranging from 0.5 inch to 2 inches were replaced, and old welds up to 8 inches schedule 80-black pipe were welded out and ~50 linear feet of bead was rewelded. Crews then furnished and installed additional new applicable piping supports/hangers where required to perform the replacement and repair. Damaged steam piping and parts were removed from the confined space pit and disposed of. The waste manifest was provided to the VA Safety GEMS Coordinator.

Additionally, work on the sewer line included replacing ~200 feet of 4-inch no-hub cast-iron pipe and fittings; ~100 feet of 3-inch no-hub cast-iron pipe and fittings; and ~100 feet of 2-inch no-hub cast-iron pipe and fittings.

All work was done with PCRA and ICRA measures in place, ensuring the critical safety of all staff, patients, and visitors of the VAMC.
