Project Summary

This project was a complete replacement of 2,000 square feet of pool roof and a roof on
Building 2 of the West Roxbury, VAMC above the patient ward on the connection
between Buildings 1 and 2, which necessitated the removal of existing solar thermal
heating systems; re-installation of solar panel support systems and removal of panels
off site; removal of existing rooftop equipment; disconnection, reconnection, and/or
relocation of other rooftop equipment and associated ductwork/piping; and preparing
shop elevations/drawings to ensure proper drainage.


Existing PVC and/or EPDM roofing was removed and disposed of within approved
containers as necessary. Roof system was replaced with two layers of 2.5-inch poly-ISO
insulation and quarter-inch:12-inch tapered insulation system plus Securock
coverboard, all layers of insulation system were set in Insul-Lock Hr. Two layers of
StressBase 120 base sheet and one layer of Stress Ply EUV cap sheet set in Green
Lock cold adhesive were used. Flood and gravel topcoat with Green Lock at a rate of 5
gallons per square was used. Existing wood nailer at leading edges and interior
penetrations were built up to appropriate height using PT dimensional lumber.
For the installation of metal systems, .040 thickness aluminum edge metal system and
.040 thickness aluminum gravel stop were installed at leading edges /coping caps of all
applicable areas as specified within architectural drawings. Ketone Ethylene Ester
(KEE) Clad metal was installed at leading edges of Ketone Ethylene Ester (KEE) roof
areas as necessary.


40 Solar Thermal Panel Collectors were removed and disposed of and an inspection
and write up of roof lightning system on pool area roof was done.
